Enjambment, A Backporch Poem

Leaves applauding in a breeze
Echo the sea and I see evening
Sun infuse our wood with
Early summer light.
Soon it will be night --brings
Stars, sound and memories
Under raucous trees --can
Remember the breaking
Granite bones of earth, and
New oceans and flowing,
Floating, growing where nothing
Stood before in our wood.

  1. No purer pleasure than the evening breeze through the screen. Ah, the smells, including the faint, heated metallic smell of the screen.

    1. I too love the breeze through the screen --and the mosquitoes bouncing off of it. It's a ringside seat to the seasons.

    1. Thanks, Jon. There are times I'll take a crossword out there and glass of wine and finish neither for the view. That's how backporch poems happen.

    1. Thanks Arleen, when we find peace it's good to build a porch where we can see it.

    1. Thanks, Linda. It's a part of the house I rush past too often. Sometimes it's nice just to stop and notice it.

  7. What a delightful view and 'leaves applauding". I've never thought of it that way but yes, of course they do.

    1. Thanks, Mimsie. Sometimes trees sound like the sea also, and I love that.
