Sub Rosa 2

We know water
And sunlit leaves,
Seeds, each other,
Under roses, trees
And earth's
Enchantment to
Be, to be.

Note: Poem, Sub Rosa 2 , was written an hour ago in response to 3 photos Norma took from an angle opposite the poem, Sub Rosa, (yes, blue and clickable) which was written and posted 5 years ago. Poetry is like that, rush rush rush. I sure hope I get more comments on this new one than I did on the first one.

  1. Yes, there is an enchantment on this earth and it is ours to share, if we but pause to see as you have done. Norma's photo is full of joy. Your poem is wise.

I visited Sub Rosa 1 and admire that tool belt. It must have stories to tell.

    1. Thanks Tom. Norma's photos were taken from her workroom window. Photo 5 years ago was taken under the same trellis 6 feet east. I was installing gray-water plumbing to the bathroom shower and sink --drought was 3 years old in 2011 despite what meteorologists said and promises to go on a while yet. However, the sparrows are bathing in fresh water from our well.

  3. Sometimes the vest prose and poetry is written quickly. That is when then muse is closest.

    1. Quite right, Emma. There is a lot of fun in sparrows but they fly away too fast for a long poem.

  4. I'm not sure why, but this tender poem, along with the sweet photos, is making me teary. I think it's because you make me see inside those little bird heads and see how simple but honest their lives are. And also, I think, how grateful they are for that water.

  5. P. S. We planted a rosa rugosa today, coincidentally. I don't think it will get as tall as yours, though.

    1. Beach roses can climb on top of themselves to 4 or 5 feet high. Yours should get tall and beautiful. The rose in Norma's photo is threaded into an 8 foot high trellis.

  8. Quick thoughts must be written down before they leave us. They are usually a combination a of the sweet and the deep. This one is lovely, Geo.

    1. Thanks, Arleen. Thoughts and skittish birds do fly off quickly. Similar construction, maybe.
