Fishgate

It has been 30 years
Since I built
Fishgate at our east
Fence, and through it
Have come the
Best things in life --
Things of love and
Wonder, my wife, our
Children, futures,
Pasts --not bad
Perhaps for a fish
Of hinges and scraps.

  6. A lucky fish, to be blessed with an assignment, presiding over coming and going. And a lovely tribute and marker in time.

    1. A big responsibility for a wooden fish, Tom. But it renews its energies with the rising sun.

  7. Now this is a fish which saw many people and much happiness. I wonder what his thoughts might be.

    1. I suspect his thoughts are indistinguishable from his bubbles, Susan. Happy out the front and not out the back.

  8. Your Gate is a wonderful inspiration for me to get off my lazy butt and start to tackle some larger projects. I have been getting one of my 1960's VW buses ready for a sister city show in Mexicali, just south of the border. It would be nice to spend some time there scrounging odds and ends of rusted scrap metal, glass, copper, bronze and ceramics. My plan is to weld up pictorial inserts to my current 500+ feet of metal fencing. I would like to change the fence to reflect the southwest desert in which I live. Hopefully with a slightly steampunk motif. this will not be a quick peoject, but at 72, I will have something to keep myself out from under my wifes feet. Yeah. . . good luck with that.

    1. Dear Kindred Spirit, welcome! Your projects sound delightful. My fences and gates are fashioned from wood scraps back when we rebuilt this crazy old farmhouse in the 1980s. Norma just painted the fish --he is brown now. Our 1st car was a '52 Dodge 3/4 ton and VW's after that. Still have my favorite '71 Bus. Must admit, though, at my age (a boy of 68) I did buy a Mazda from this century for AC in summer. Thanks for visiting, Dave!

  9. Thank you for the reply. If you are ever free during the third weekend in January, their is a 4 day bus show our club puts on along the Colorado River in Lake Havasu City. Come visit us in your bus, would like to meet you. Last year we hosted 600 buses. PS there are a couple of good videos on Youtube of past shows, just put in "Buses by the Bridge" Dave
