From An Even More Apocryphal Apocrypha

The great spirit of
Humankind descended
Upon the world and cried out,
"What the heck am
I doing in all these bodies
And why are they so
Excited about each other?"
All the stars swept
Down to shed light on
The question and
Got snagged in a
Potted olive tree.
"Beats us!" they chorused.
So it's up to you and me, I guess.

  1. The stars must gallivant a lot, especially at certain times of the year ... December, for instance. I see them caught up in trees all over the place.

Does your olive tree produce olives?

    1. Yes, that does seem to happen around the Yuletide --astronomers have yet to explain it. Our little olive tree is too young to bear olives. In a few years perhaps it will.

    1. Agreed. I have been fond of the olive as a peace symbol since reading Virgil's "Aeneid", which also passes the test of time.

  3. The great spirit of humankind should be told that it is here to experience that wonderful gamut of emotions and interactions that are what makes us human.

    1. Beautifully phrased, Emma, and quite true.

  4. Perhaps the great spirit of humankind will find a way to free the stars, once the olives have ripened. Less hope for that trapped in those human bodies, I suppose.

    1. Perhaps, and yet, at some irreducible point, the spark that ignites tremendous stars and the spark that ignites the slow burn of metabolism may be indistinguishable.
